Cambridge United is the university city’s football team and a cherished local institution who play their home matches at the Abbey Stadium, their home since 1932. The 8,000-capacity stadium includes around 4,000 seats, and what it may lack in size it more than makes up for in atmosphere come matchday. Prior to election into the Football League, Cambridge City were regarded as the club's biggest rivals, although today that honour goes to Peterborough United, despite the fact the two clubs have experienced a number of seasons divisions apart.
